Chandigarh, July 21, 2024: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chandigarh University Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu have urged retired officers of Punjab Civil Services to continue playing a constructive role in the nation-building by using their deep knowledge and rich experience for creating a vision for the development of Punjab and India.
Releasing the first edition of the magazine “The Golden Era” published by Punjab Civil Services (EB) Retd.
Officers Association late on Saturday evening, the Rajya Sabha member said the retired civil service officers are a big asset for society and can help in finding solutions to the problems faced the country.
“You (retired civil service officers) who have contributed through your service across Punjab for taking the state forward. And you have gained great knowledge with the long years of your service. The society can benefit from this knowledge and rich experience of yours,” Sandhu said.
He, however, said unfortunately there are very few platforms in our country to utilize the services of people with wisdom, knowledge and experience.
“Such people (retired officers) are asked to take a walk in park after retirement. As far as I understand, the bureaucracy has two parts , one is IAS officers who are selected through the national level examination and state civil services officers. IAS officers have a different understanding and approach to work. But each state has different DNA, so such officers (IAS) understand everything but don’t reach to the real DNA of the state. Only the offers who were born and brought up in a state can understand the DNA of the concerned state,” the Member of Parliament said emphasizing the role of Punjab Civil Service officers in addressing the issues of Punjab.
Sandhu said constructive work will also provide professional satisfaction and peace to the soul to the retired officers. “People can get new direction and hope with your services as lots of constructive work can be done with your rich experience,” he added.
The Chandigarh University Chancellor also urged the retired officers to create a vision for development of Punjab and India. He also urged them to share their knowledge and experience for bringing the issues, especially of Punjab, to the notice of the government.
The magazine “The Golden Era” was released Satnam Singh Sandhu in the presence of Executive Committee members of the Association led by GS Bahia, Chairman and Dr. Balbir Singh Dhol, President of the Association.
Appreciating the initiative taken by the Association, the MP said the writings of “The Golden Era” would not only prove to be a guide for the new officers in the cadre but also be a motivation for all young people aspiring to join the Administrative services and to serve the people of country.
The idea behind the publication of this magazine is to highlight the social services done by the association, creative writings of the members depicting their struggle in life, success stories, good practices done during services, topics on general administration, revenue, transport, social issues, education etc. This magazine will be published bi-annually.
