Panchayat Elections 2024: Nomination papers can be filed with affidavit in absence of No-Due Certificate

Ferozepur, October 1, 2024: In the context of the upcoming Panchayat elections, candidates can submit their nomination papers with an affidavit if they cannot obtain a No-Due Certificate (NDC) despite their efforts. This update was provided by Additional District Electoral Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa, in accordance with the latest instructions from the Punjab State Election Commission.
Randhawa explained that if a candidate cannot secure the NDC for any tax arrears or a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) regarding any property, they can file an affidavit alongside their nomination papers. In this affidavit, the candidate must declare that no arrears are pending under the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994 and that they have not infringed upon any property under any authority.
ADC also mentioned that the Returning Officer (RO) will forward such nominations to the concerned authorities, who must provide a report within 24 hours. If no report is received within the given time, it will be assumed that the candidate is not a defaulter under the Act and has not made any unauthorized encroachments.
Randhawa urged all officials to ensure strict compliance with these instructions.
