Haryana: Deepak Bansal, Deputy Director General and State Informatics Officer, retires

Chandigarh, April 30, 2025 -Deepak Bansal, appointed as Deputy Director General and State Informatics Officer in the Haryana State Centre of National Informatics Centre, retired today after a service of about 37 years.
A farewell ceremony was organized to mark his retirement in which the officers praised his service.
On this occasion, Deepak Bansal shared memories of his job journey in NIC and told that after passing MCA from Kurukshetra University, he joined NIC on 7th October, 1988 as a "System Analyst".
He told that his first big success came when all the treasuries were computerized. Once we proved our capabilities, NIC started getting a lot of respect within the administration and our role increased significantly.
Deepak Bansal informed that later his job was transferred to “Haryana State Centre” of National Informatics Centre, where he was assigned Haryana Warehousing Project.
He further informed that thereafter he started imparting training to Private Secretaries and Personal Assistants. This step made a significant contribution towards skill development and capacity building.
In the year 2005, he conceived the e-Disha project, which became a model for service delivery across the country. Parallel to this he also got involved in Budget Preparation for the Finance Department, which laid the foundation for developing a state of the art, end-to-end Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) for Haryana.
This system not only received appreciation, but was also successfully implemented in parts of Punjab and Tripura.Bansal informed that in the year 2016, on the request of Chief Minister’s Office, “ServicePlus” started to be implemented under the brand name “Saral”.
It was a project that changed the paradigm of service delivery in unimaginable ways. Today, Saral is providing more than 550 services across various departments and monitoring more than 850 services.He was also awarded the prestigious "National e-Governance Award (Gold)" and "Digital India Award" for this transformational initiative.
He informed that on 1st May, 2017, he was designated as State Informatics Officer (SIO). He informed that during the challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic he led the creation of "38 critical applications" including "NIC-Meet" which aimed to provide timely relief in terms of cash, food, medicines and industrial operations and permissions.
Deepak Bansal expressed his pride in being a part of the "Core Committee" of the concept of "Parivar Pehchan Patra" and said that it is a unique initiative of a "family-based database".
Expressing satisfaction over his tenure, he said that he is extremely proud to have contributed to the development of digital governance in India.He thanked the Haryana Government for guiding and supporting him from time to time.
