Chandigarh, May 13, 2025: In a shocking incident in Punjab’s Majitha constituency, at least 14 people have died after consuming spurious liquor in three villages — Bhangali Kalan, Mardi Kalan, and Thariyewal.
Several others are reportedly in critical condition and are undergoing treatment in local hospitals.Former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia has strongly condemned the incident and raised serious concerns regarding the functioning of the government.
He alleged that the liquor mafia is openly selling toxic alcohol while the government is not only failing to act but is also trying to shield those responsible.
Majithia further claimed that no post-mortem was conducted on the deceased, which he called a highly suspicious and serious lapse.Urging Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to intervene, Majithia demanded adequate compensation for the victims’ families and strict action against those involved.
“This incident reflects the collapse of law and order in the state. The government must take stringent measures against the liquor mafia to prevent such tragedies in the future,” Majithia said.
Meanwhile, the district administration has launched an investigation into the case and assured stringent action against those found guilty.
