Railway launches special parcel checking drive to curb misdeclaration
4 cases of parcel misdeclaration detected in Ludhiana
Ferozepur, May 13, 2025: A special 15-day parcel checking campaign has been launched by the Ferozepur Division of Indian Railways, to monitor items being booked under the parcel service.
The drive is being conducted under the direction of Divisional Railway Manager Sanjay Sahu and led by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager/FS Manu Garg. Key railway stations involved in the campaign include Firozpur Cantt, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar City, and Jalandhar Cantt.
The initiative covers both booked parcels and those taken on lease, with thorough inspections being carried out jointly by parcel staff and RPF personnel. In cases where misdeclared goods are detected, appropriate action is being taken as per railway rules. So far, four cases of misdeclaration have been identified at Ludhiana, with fines imposed on the parties involved.
Manu Garg has appealed to passengers and parcel customers to ensure that the contents mentioned in the forwarding note at the time of booking accurately reflect the actual items being sent. He warned that misdeclaration of items, particularly dangerous or restricted goods, will lead to strict action under railway regulations.
He further stated that the parcel checking drive will continue even after the special campaign concludes.
