SAS Nagar (Mohali), August 2, 2025: In a decisive move to decongest Airport Road and enhance commuter safety, the Mohali District Administration has imposed time-bound restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles along the busy PR-7 stretch between the Sector-66/82 junction and the Airport roundabout.
Effective from August 4, the movement of heavy vehicles will be prohibited from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, targeting the city's busiest hours.District Magistrate Komal Mittal cited rising traffic snarls and accident risks as the trigger behind this regulation.
“Airport Road is a lifeline connecting Mohali, Chandigarh, and the airport. Daily peak-hour traffic includes school buses, office-goers, and public transport. The unchecked entry of large vehicles during these hours disrupts flow and endangers lives,” she said.
The ban—invoked under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023—covers trucks, lorries, multi-axle carriers, and construction vehicles.
Exemptions apply only to emergency services (ambulances, fire brigades, police), essential supply vehicles (milk, water, medicines), and government utility services on urgent duty.
Strict enforcement has been mandated through the SSP, SAS Nagar, and GMADA’s Chief Engineer, who will also install appropriate signage and monitoring mechanisms along the stretch.
Violators will face penal action under the MV Act and BNSS, the order warned, adding that the restriction will remain in place until further notice.
