Chandigarh, September 30, 2025: The ailing mother of jailed Sikh militant Jagtar Singh Hawara has sought the intervention of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for the release of her son on parole. Hawara, currently lodged in Mandoli Central Jail, is serving a life sentence for the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
Narinder Kaur, 81, who is bedridden, has made an emotional plea for her son’s temporary release so that he can be by her side.
The Chief Minister’s office has forwarded her request to Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood for consideration. A similar appeal has also been submitted to National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura.
Adding weight to the demand, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, officiating Jathedar of the Akal Takht, has urged the government to grant parole to Hawara.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney voiced his support on social media, requesting Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Home Minister Ashish Sood to approve the parole “so that Hawara can meet his dying mother.” Sahney further argued that after spending over three decades behind bars, Hawara’s case aligns with precedents of release set by other states, particularly Haryana.
