Governor Kataria flags off 50 QRT motorcycles donated by Honda India Foundation to Chandigarh Police

Chandigarh, October 8, 2025 – In a major step toward enhancing road safety and emergency response capabilities in the city, the Honda India Foundation (HIF) today handed over 50 Quick Response Team (QRT) motorcycles to the Chandigarh Police at a flag-off ceremony held at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, who flagged off the vehicles under the theme “Sadak Sahayogi – Surakshit Marg, Surakshit Jeevan.”
Senior officers including Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary; Shri Mandeep Singh Brar, IAS, Home Secretary; Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, DGP, UT Chandigarh; and other senior officials of Chandigarh Police were present at the event.
Honda India Foundation officials, including Mr. Rajiv Taneja and Mr. Karan Gilhotra of Platinum Honda, attended the ceremony, emphasizing the collaboration as a model CSR partnership between the private and public sectors to save lives and promote road safety.
In his address, the Governor lauded Chandigarh Police’s efficiency and accountability, citing achievements such as:
- 1st position in the country for speedy passport verifications (2023–24)
- 91.2% conviction rate in decided cases
- Average emergency response time of 5.6 minutes, the fastest in India
Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, DGP Chandigarh, said the specially equipped QRT motorcycles will enhance police response to road accidents, emergencies, and traffic management. Each bike comes with sirens, flashers, PA systems, helmets, and other emergency tools.
Under Honda’s vision of a “Collision-Free Society by 2050,” the company aims to deploy 250 such QRT vehicles across key Indian states, with Chandigarh emerging as a model city for the initiative.
The event also saw the release of a Road Safety Booklet by Chandigarh Police, focusing on citizen awareness and safe driving practices.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, IPS, SSP (Security & Traffic), reaffirming the commitment of the UT Administration and Chandigarh Police to a “Safer, Stronger Chandigarh.”
