Bathinda (Punjab), October 11, 2025:BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, actress and politician Kangana Ranaut is set to appear in Bathinda District Court on October 27 in a high-profile defamation case. The court approved the request by Kangana’s lawyers on Friday, confirming her personal appearance at 2 PM.
The case was filed by Mahinder Kaur, wife of Labh Singh from Bahadargarh Jandian village, Bathinda, on January 4, 2021, alleging defamatory remarks made by Kangana during her comments on the farmers’ protests in Delhi.
The dispute drew attention after Kangana criticized Mahinder Kaur in a tweet, suggesting she was paid to participate in the protest, and shared her photo online. At the time, Mahinder Kaur was 81 years old, and she continues to be actively involved in agricultural activities even at the age of 85.
The legal battle has been long and complicated. After filing in Bathinda District Court, Kangana challenged the case in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which initially stayed proceedings. In August 2025, the High Court dismissed her petition, clearing the way for the District Court hearing. Kangana also approached the Supreme Court, which did not provide relief, leaving her no option but to appear in person.
The controversy surrounding Kangana’s statements escalated when an incident occurred at Chandigarh Airport, where CISF personnel Kulvinder Kaur reportedly slapped her in response to her remarks on the farmers’ protest. Kangana’s outspoken statements regarding the protests and elderly participants have repeatedly drawn public criticism and media attention.
Kangana’s court appearance on October 27 will mark a significant moment in the ongoing defamation case, which has captured widespread media and public attention due to the high-profile nature of both parties involved and the broader context of the farmers’ protests.
