Punjab’s Rajinder Gupta flips the script — AAP now richer than BJP, Congress in Rajya Sabha
Rajinder Gupta becomes the second wealthiest member of the Rajya Sabha
AAP tops the wealth ladder in Rajya Sabha after Rajinder Gupta’s high-value entry

Chandigarh, October 20, 2025: Industrialist Rajinder Gupta’s induction into the Rajya Sabha has completely reshaped the wealth map of India’s Upper House, propelling the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) far ahead of both the BJP and the Congress in terms of declared assets.
According to data analyzed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Gupta — with declared assets worth ₹5,053 crore — not only becomes the second richest member of the Rajya Sabha (after BRS MP Bandi Partha Saradhi, ₹5,300 crore), but also transforms AAP’s overall financial footprint in the Upper House. While the richest Rajya Sabha MP carries loan liabilities exceeding Rs 1,000 crore, Rajinder Gupta is free from such liability.

AAP Becomes the Richest Pary Bloc
Before Gupta’s entry, AAP’s Rajya Sabha contingent stood modestly at around ₹1,100 crore. With his inclusion, the party’s total assets have skyrocketed to nearly ₹6,200 crore, overtaking:
- YSRCP (~₹3,450 crore)
- Congress (INC) (~₹2,103 crore)
- BJP (~₹2,045 crore)
This leap makes AAP the “richest party bloc” in the Rajya Sabha, with total assets 1.46 times greater than YSRCP’s and nearly 2.5 times those of the BJP.
Punjab tops the State Chart-Thanks to one MP
Gupta’s induction also places Punjab at No. 1 among states in terms of total Rajya Sabha assets, surpassing previous leaders Andhra Pradesh (₹3,714 crore), Uttar Pradesh (₹2,629 crore), and Telangana (₹2,080 crore).
In fact, Gupta alone accounts for 1.36 times Andhra’s total and 3.46 times Gujarat’s (₹1,459 crore).

A One-Man Transformation
Analysts are calling it a “one-seat dominance effect” — where a single industrialist’s entry can flip an entire party’s standing.
Before this, AAP’s Rajya Sabha bench was known for modest asset declarations, but Gupta’s inclusion has instantly redefined its financial profile, showcasing how one ultra-high-net-worth candidate can alter the optics of party wealth at the national level.
From 'Aam Aadmi' to Affluent Elite
ADR’s statement highlights the irony in this dramatic shift:
“Gupta's entry has surpassed all existing figures, placing him at the top of the bloc by a wide margin and taking AAP’s total declared wealth to nearly ₹6,200 crore — making it one of the wealthiest benches among national parties. With his candidature, AAP will have to justify its transformation from the self-styled party of the ‘aam aadmi’ to one now dominated by corporate magnates.”
With Rajinder Gupta’s unopposed election to the Rajya Sabha on October 18, AAP’s bench now includes two of the ten richest MPs in the Upper House — Vikramjit Singh Sahney (₹498 crore) and Gupta (₹5,053 crore) — firmly establishing AAP’s financial dominance in Parliament’s wealth charts.
A Journey of Vision, Compassion, Resolve and Nation-Building

Born in Bathinda in 1959, in Punjab’s Malwa region, which was then considered semi-urban and backward, Gupta began his industrial journey in Barnala with a modest chemical factory, Abhishek Chemicals, in 1985.
Despite his stature, Gupta remains grounded — usually seen in traditional Punjabi kurta-pyjama and waistcoat in public spaces, reflecting his humble yet forward-looking persona. He is kind-hearted and humble, yet a man of strong determination.
Rajinder Gupta is a first-generation entrepreneur from Punjab, who embodies the spirit of Indian enterprise combined with a deep commitment to public service, social development and nation-building. Elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab, he brings to the Council of States decades of experience in leadership, ethical governance, and a lifelong dedication to industrial development, employment generation, social upliftment, education, healthcare, and skill development.
Beginning his journey with humble means in the mid-1980s, he built the TRIDENT GROUP - an enterprise that today has grown into one of the world’s finest and largest integrated conglomerate.

It is a journey not merely of business success but of harnessing industry as a force for human dignity and national progress.
He continues to guide and inspire as Chairman Emeritus of Trident Limited, which has now grown to a USD 2 billion+ enterprise, powered by a workforce of 17,500+ while also serving in leadership roles across industry, education, sports, and healthcare.
In his own words:
“Business is my occupation, but creating opportunities is my passion.”
