Tarn Taran (Punjab), November 10, 2025: All eyes are on Tarn Taran, where polling for the high-stakes Assembly by-election will be held tomorrow (November 11). The contest promises to be multi-cornered, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vying for supremacy in this politically sensitive constituency.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal earlier this year. Having won five of six bypolls since coming to power in March 2022, AAP is looking to retain its stronghold, while rival parties see Tarn Taran as an opportunity to regain ground.
The four leading parties have fielded the following candidates:
-
AAP: Harmeet Singh Sandhu
-
Congress: Karanbir Singh Burj
-
SAD: Bibi Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa
-
BJP: Harjeet Singh Sandhu
A total of 15 candidates are in the fray.
District Election Officer Rahul (IAS) said all arrangements have been completed to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polling. A dry day has been declared from 6 PM on November 9 to 6 PM on November 11, and again on November 14, the day of counting.
Security has been tightened, and flying squads, micro-observers, and police personnel have been deployed across all polling stations.
With the ruling AAP seeking continuity and opposition parties eyeing a comeback, Tarn Taran’s verdict will offer key political cues ahead of Punjab’s future electoral battles.
