Tight Security in Border Constituency
Given Tarn Taran’s proximity to the international border, the Election Commission has implemented stringent security measures to ensure peaceful polling. For the first time in a by-election, 12 companies of central forces have been deployed.
Out of 222 polling stations, 114 have been marked as “sensitive.” Additionally, 46 micro observers are monitoring these locations. CCTV cameras and webcasting facilities have been set up across all polling booths for real-time surveillance.
Voter Demographics
District Election Officer Rahul informed that the Tarn Taran constituency has 1,00,933 male, 91,897 female, and 8 transgender voters.
The district administration has also established 4 Adarsh polling stations, 3 women-managed booths, and 1 booth for persons with disabilities (PwD) to encourage inclusive participation.
Main Contestants and Key Factor
The main contest is expected between Harmeet Singh Sandhu (AAP), Sukhwinder Kaur (SAD), Harjeet Singh Sandhu (BJP), and Karanbir Singh (Congress).
However, Mandeep Singh, representing ‘Waris Punjab De’, the outfit led by pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh, is also seen as a potential spoiler, especially with the Panthak vote likely to play a crucial role in determining the outcome.
