Kuldeep Dhaliwal urges GNDU to conduct socio-economy survey of border areas
Babushahi Bureau
Amritsar (Punjab), November 30 2025: Punjab MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has written to Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), requesting a comprehensive socio-economic survey of flood-affected border regions in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Ferozepur. He said the assessment is essential to understand the true scale of devastation caused by recent flooding.
Dhaliwal stressed the need for a scientific evaluation of the losses suffered by farmers and labourers, noting that many families are already struggling. He highlighted that nearly 60,000 acres of farmland near the border are rendered unusable due to security restrictions, and the floods have deepened the crisis further.
The MLA urged GNDU’s departments of Sociology, Economics, and Social Work to conduct an impartial survey and present practical recommendations to the government to aid recovery and long-term planning.
