Ludhiana (Punjab), December 3 2025 — In a major crackdown on social media content aimed at spreading communal discord, the Cyber Crime Police Station of the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has registered an FIR and arrested one individual for circulating provocative and inflammatory material online.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, IPS, said that the accused, Arshdeep Singh Saini, had been using his X (formerly Twitter) handle @the_lama_singh to post content that was communal, provocative, and capable of creating disharmony among communities. Saini, active on the platform since February 2019, has nearly 13,000 followers.
Preliminary monitoring by the Cyber Crime unit revealed that the objectionable posts targeted various religious groups, including Sikhs, Hindus, and Muslims. Police stated that the nature of engagement and follower profiles indicated a deliberate attempt to incite hatred among communities in Punjab.
An FIR (No. 64) was registered on November 28, 2025, under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. Police have arrested the accused, secured his remand, and begun further investigation.
CP Swapan Sharma added that authorities are probing whether these online activities were part of a coordinated "toolkit" allegedly designed to create unrest in Punjab, possibly at the behest of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Further investigations are underway.
