Chandigarh (Punjab), December 12, 2025: The cold wave gripping Punjab and Chandigarh is set to deepen further in the coming days. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog across the region from today (December 12) for the next three days.
According to officials, a new Western Disturbance has become active, which will directly influence weather conditions in the northern plains. While temperatures are expected to drop, the week is likely to remain dry with no forecast of rain.
The weather department has warned of reduced visibility, especially in districts bordering Himachal Pradesh. These include Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala, where dense fog is expected during early morning and night hours.
In the last 24 hours, Punjab’s minimum temperature has dropped by 0.4°C. Adampur remained the coldest location with the temperature sliding to 4.0°C.
Chandigarh also experienced a sharp decline in temperature, recording a minimum of 6.9°C, which is 3.6°C below normal. Day temperatures too have started to dip and currently hover between 22°C and 27°C, close to the seasonal average.
Experts say winter will intensify further as two Western Disturbances are expected this week. The first system will affect Himalayan regions today evening or by December 13, while the second is likely to arrive around December 17–18.
These systems may lead to snowfall in the hills and could strengthen cold wave conditions in the plains.
