Prohibitory orders issued around polling stations ahead of Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections

Mohali (Punjab) December 13, 2025:In view of the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections 2025 scheduled for December 14, the District Magistrate of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Smt. Komal Mittal, IAS, has issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Safety Code, 2023, covering the jurisdictions of Panchayat Samiti Majri, Kharar, and Derabassi.
The orders aim to ensure a smooth, peaceful and fair polling process and enforce strict compliance with Section 110 of the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994, as per the guidelines of the State Election Commission, Punjab.
Key prohibitions within 100 meters of all polling stations include:
- Assembly or gathering of five or more persons (other than voters in queue).
- Campaigning or soliciting votes.
- Setting up booths or tents by political parties or candidates.
- Display of election-related posters or banners.
- Use of cell phones, cordless phones, wireless sets, and loudspeakers (except for election personnel and security staff).
- Movement of unauthorised private vehicles.
- Any activity that may interfere with the election process.
Exemptions apply to army, paramilitary, police personnel, and polling staff on election duty.
The District Magistrate warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators under the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023. These prohibitory orders will remain in force until the completion of polling on December 14.
The District Administration has appealed to political parties, candidates, and the public to cooperate fully to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
