New Delhi, December 19, 2025: Suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar suffered a major setback on Friday after the Supreme Court refused to hear his petition seeking a stay on his bail proceedings and the ongoing CBI investigation.
A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) categorically declined to entertain the plea and directed Bhullar to approach the High Court again to present his case.
Following the court’s strict observations, Bhullar withdrew his petition, after which it was dismissed. He had challenged the FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with allegations of disproportionate assets and bribery. Earlier, Bhullar had failed to secure relief from the High Court, prompting him to move the apex court, where he again received no relief.
The case pertains to serious corruption allegations. The CBI had arrested Bhullar for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹8 lakh from a businessman in Mandi Gobindgarh. A middleman identified as Krishna was also arrested in the case.
During searches conducted by the investigating agency, a huge cache of cash, jewellery, and liquor worth approximately ₹7.5 crore was reportedly recovered from Bhullar’s residence, further compounding his legal troubles.
