Amritsar (Punjab), January 5, 2026:A major development has emerged in the murder case of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch Jarmal Singh, who was shot dead in Amritsar on Sunday. Notorious gangster Donny Ball has allegedly claimed responsibility for the killing through a social media post.
In the purported post, the gangster alleged that the sarpanch had colluded with the police and accepted ₹35 lakh to get his house demolished in Dasuwal village, following which the murder was carried out as an act of revenge.
However, it is important to note that the authenticity of the social media post has not been independently verified. Punjab Police has initiated a detailed investigation into the claim to identify the real perpetrators at the earliest.
AAP sarpanch Jarmal Singh was gunned down by two armed assailants while attending a wedding ceremony at a resort in Amritsar. The attackers opened fire while he was seated at a table with other guests, sending shockwaves across the venue and triggering panic in the area.
The deceased was a resident of Valtoha village in Tarn Taran district and was serving as the current sarpanch. According to police records, he had survived three previous attacks, indicating a long-standing threat to his life. Police reached the spot immediately after receiving information and questioned several attendees as part of the investigation.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken a tough stance on the incident, stating that no accused involved in the murder will be spared. The Chief Minister spoke to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav over the phone and sought a detailed briefing on the case.
CM Mann directed the police to identify and arrest the culprits without delay, reiterating that there is no place for criminals in Punjab. He asserted that the state government is committed to eliminating gangster culture, which he said was fostered during previous regimes.
