Chandigarh, January 9, 2026 — In a significant administrative move, the Election Commission (EC) has revoked the suspension of senior IPS officer Ravjot Kaur Grewal of the Punjab cadre. Grewal, a 2015-batch officer who was serving as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Tarn Taran, had been placed under suspension in November 2025 following allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct during the high-stakes assembly by-election for the Tarn Taran seat.
The reinstatement order comes after the successful completion of the entire electoral process and a detailed departmental review of the complaints lodged against her.
The initial disciplinary action against the officer followed several serious complaints from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which accused her of professional negligence and utilizing the police machinery to influence the election in favor of the ruling party.
Allegations specifically included the registration of "false" FIRs to hinder opposition campaigning. To maintain the sanctity of a "free and fair" election, the Election Commission had ordered her immediate suspension on November 8, just three days before polling.
