New Delhi, January 20, 2026:The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim relief to the Punjab Kesari newspaper group, directing that its printing press shall not be shut down, even as legal proceedings continue over alleged violations flagged by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).
The relief came after the newspaper group approached the apex court challenging the action initiated by the Punjab government against its printing press. While the Supreme Court did not grant relief related to the closure of the group’s hotel, it made it clear that the printing press must be allowed to function without interruption.
According to a report by Live Law, the matter is currently pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. However, the Supreme Court, while granting interim protection, ordered that the printing press will continue its operations subject to the final outcome of the High Court’s decision.
The apex court further clarified that the interim order will remain in force until the High Court delivers its verdict and for one week thereafter, enabling the parties to explore appropriate legal remedies, including filing an appeal if required.
