Ferozepur, February 7, 2024: The Tele-MANAS project, launched by the Government of India on October 10, 2022, to raise awareness about mental health and promote mental well-being, is proving to be a blessing in addressing mental health concerns.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajiv Parashar, described Tele-MANAS as a revolutionary initiative in mental health services. He explained that it is a toll-free helpline providing free, 24/7 mental health counselling across India, available in over 20 languages. Those in need can access the services by dialling the toll-free numbers 14416 or 1800-891-4416.
Dr. Parashar highlighted that individuals can easily benefit from this service from the comfort of their homes via phone. All caller information is kept strictly confidential. The project also has its own mobile app, offering counselling on various issues such as substance abuse, anxiety, exam stress, depression, financial stress, crisis management, and family problems.
He noted that Punjab has set a new milestone this year, handling over 35,000 calls and resolutions through the Tele-MANAS project. Users can connect with counsellors, social workers, and psychologists based on their specific mental health concerns. The service also provides personalized support when required, including video consultations and information on medications.
