Amritsar (Punjab), February 9, 2026:Acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, has directed the Punjab Government to ensure that only Amritdhari Sikh officers are included in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case related to 328 missing saroops.
Addressing the media here on Monday, Jathedar Gargajj alleged that members of the existing SIT had violated Sikh maryada during the course of the investigation. He said the sensitivity and religious significance of the matter demand that the probe be conducted exclusively by Amritdhari Sikh officers, and instructed the state government to reconstitute the SIT accordingly.
During his interaction with the media, the Jathedar also issued directions to the Sikh community not to throw gulal during the celebrations of Hola Mohalla, emphasising the need to uphold Sikh traditions and discipline.
Responding to remarks by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Jathedar Gargajj asserted that Sikhs are a distinct and unique community, with their own identity, traditions and religious code of conduct.
He further demanded the registration of FIRs against all officials responsible for forcing Sikh students to remove their kara during an examination in Bathinda. Calling the incident a serious violation of religious rights, he said, “This is Punjab. If Sikhs are not allowed to wear their kakars here, then how will we raise our voice for Sikh rights at the national and international level?”
