PM Modi unveils ‘Seva Teerth’ as new name of complex housing PMO, NSCS and Cabinet Secretariat
New Delhi, February 13, 2026 (ANI): New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled the new name for the complex housing the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), and the Cabinet Secretariat, which will now be known as Seva Teerth.
The Prime Minister will formally inaugurate Seva Teerth along with Kartavya Bhavan-1 and Kartavya Bhavan-2, and address a public gathering at the new complex later in the evening.
The renaming of South Block to Seva Teerth is part of the government’s broader initiative since 2014 to move away from colonial-era symbols and promote what it describes as a citizen-centric administrative identity.
Over the past few years, several prominent landmarks have been rechristened, including Rajpath as Kartavya Path and Race Course Road as Lok Kalyan Marg. Various Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas buildings across the country have also been renamed as Lok Bhavan or Lok Niwas.
According to an official statement from the PMO, the inauguration marks a significant milestone in the restructuring of India’s administrative framework. For decades, key ministries and offices functioned from ageing and scattered infrastructure across the Central Vista area, leading to coordination challenges and rising maintenance costs.
Seva Teerth now consolidates the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat, which were previously located in separate buildings.
Meanwhile, Kartavya Bhavan-1 and 2 will house several major ministries, including Finance, Defence, Health & Family Welfare, Corporate Affairs, Education, Culture, Law & Justice, Information & Broadcasting, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Chemicals & Fertilizers, and Tribal Affairs.
The new complexes are equipped with digitally integrated office systems, structured public interface zones and centralised reception areas aimed at improving efficiency and citizen engagement. The facilities have been designed in accordance with 4-Star GRIHA sustainability standards and incorporate renewable energy systems, water conservation mechanisms and advanced waste management solutions.
Enhanced safety features such as smart access control systems, surveillance networks and modern emergency response infrastructure have also been integrated into the complexes.
The government stated that the move reflects its vision of building a modern, efficient and environmentally sustainable governance ecosystem aligned with the needs of a growing nation.
