Chandigarh, February 22, 2026: In a swift response to concerns over deteriorating infrastructure, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has ordered the complete reconstruction of Government Primary School in Basti Hazur, Fazilka, directing officials to begin immediate remedial measures.
Taking serious note of the condition of the school building, the Minister assured that a new structure would be completed within six months and stated that he would personally oversee the transformation process.
“The poor condition of the school in Basti Hazur was brought to my notice yesterday. I have already directed officers to take immediate action, and I will personally visit the school. This school will have a new building within the next six months. This is not a political statement; it is a personal guarantee,” Bains said.
Highlighting the larger infrastructure challenge, the Education Minister noted that Punjab has nearly 20,000 government schools, many of which were in extremely poor condition due to decades of neglect.
Referring to the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Bains said the state government has transformed hundreds of schools in the past few years, with renovation and upgradation works progressing at full pace.
“Transforming all 20,000 schools is a journey, and the government is steadily marching towards that goal with commitment and transparency,” he added.
Reiterating his focus on education reforms, Bains said the initiative is rooted in accountability and sustained action. “Education is not politics for me; it is my passion and responsibility,” he stated.
