Kapurthala (Punjab), February 23, 2026: A wave of tension gripped the village of Ramgarh in Kapurthala today as authorities initiated demolition proceedings at the residence of legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira, citing alleged illegal construction.
The operation, carried out with a heavy police presence, sparked clashes between Khaira’s supporters and law enforcement, forcing authorities to deploy additional forces to maintain order.
Administrative sources clarified that the demolition was restricted to structures identified as unauthorized under existing regulations.
They maintained that the action followed proper procedures. However, Khaira slammed the move as a politically motivated vendetta, stating, “Part of my house is being demolished without any prior notice or hearing, under illegal orders from CM Bhagwant Mann.”
Following Khaira’s call for support, large numbers of his supporters gathered outside the house, turning the area into a tense standoff zone. Law enforcement sealed off the vicinity to prevent violent incidents.
