Chandigarh, March 7, 2026: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, Punjab Police have detained most-wanted gangster Amritpal Singh, alias Amrit Dalam, at the Moldova border, officials announced on Saturday.
The arrest comes on the basis of an Interpol Red Notice (Red Corner Notice) issued at the request of Punjab Police in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Interpol, and other central agencies, said DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav.
Amritpal Singh, a native of Dalam Nangal village in Batala, is reportedly associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang and had fled abroad using a fraudulent passport. He has been linked to multiple criminal activities including drug smuggling, murders, attempt to murder, and extortion calls targeting individuals and business owners, particularly in the Amritsar region.
Highlighting the state’s intensified efforts to track fugitives abroad, DGP Yadav said the detention was the result of sustained international coordination and persistent follow-up by Punjab Police. Legal and diplomatic procedures are now underway to extradite Amritpal Singh to India to face justice.
The arrest is part of a broader initiative by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who recently instructed the creation of the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC). Headed by IGP Counter Intelligence Ashish Choudhary, OFTEC is tasked with tracking criminals abroad and expediting their extradition to Punjab.
DGP Yadav added that OFTEC continues to pursue several fugitives currently hiding overseas as part of the campaign against organized crime.
