Illegal Communication in Ferozepur Jail curbed; 8 mobiles, banned items seized
Ferozepur, March 13, 2026: In a major crackdown on the use of illegal communication devices inside the jail, in other words snapping the outer world life line of prisoners, the authorities at Ferozepur Central Jail have seized a total of 82 mobile phones during the current year so far, snapping what officials described as prisoners’ “lifeline to the outer world.”
Data shows a steady rise in the recovery of mobile phones from jails in recent years: 70 in 2019, 130 in 2020, 265 in 2021, 437 in 2022, 469 in 2023, 500 in 2024, 649 in 2025, and 82 already seized in 2026 so far.
According to jail officials, eight mobile phones and four sachets of tobacco were recovered during two search operations conducted on March 4 and March 7. The recoveries were made from inmates Kuldip Singh alias Kipa, Varinder alias Vimmi, Satnam Choudhary alias Amna, Vinay Bhandari, Simranjit Singh, Sajan, Kaka, Vikram and Pargat Singh.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered under Sections 52A and 42 of the Prisons Act on the complaint of the Assistant Superintendent. Further investigation is being carried out by ASI Sukhdev Singh.
Sources revealed that such contraband items are often smuggled into the jail through various methods, including throwing packets over the high boundary walls, hiding them in clothing or body cavities during family visits or parole returns, and sometimes due to lapses at security checkpoints.
Officials said that the introduction of modern surveillance and security technologies in prisons is expected to help curb this menace in the future.
