Chandigarh, April 1, 2026:A high-intensity explosion outside the Punjab unit office of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Sector 37 sent shockwaves across the city on Tuesday evening, raising fresh concerns over the security of political establishments.
The blast occurred around 4:45 PM near the boundary wall adjoining the Rotary Blood Bank. The impact damaged nearby vehicles and created panic in the area. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Police and security agencies rushed to the spot soon after the incident, cordoned off the area, and launched an immediate investigation. Forensic teams have begun examining the site to determine the nature and source of the explosion.
The incident has drawn attention to previous threats targeting BJP leaders in Punjab. In July 2024, several senior leaders—including Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Tajinder Singh Sran, Manthri Shrinivas and Parminder Brar—reportedly received life-threatening letters accompanied by explosive materials.
Following those threats, a case was registered under the Explosive Act at the Sector 39 police station in Chandigarh. Authorities are now examining whether Tuesday’s blast is linked to that earlier episode.
Police and intelligence agencies are investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of a targeted attack or terror link. Security has been heightened across key installations in Chandigarh and nearby areas as a precautionary measure.
The explosion has raised pressing questions about the safety of political offices and leaders in the region. Officials stressed the need for heightened vigilance and swift action against any attempts to disrupt public order.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
