BBMB installs early warning system along Beas river to alert residents on water release

Talwara (Punjab), April 6, 2026: The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has installed an advanced Early Warning System (EWS) along the Beas River to ensure timely alerts for residents living along the riverbanks during the release of excess water from Pong Dam.
The system was inaugurated online by BBMB Chairman Manoj Tripathi, who said the initiative aims to enhance public safety and improve emergency communication.
Under the project, six Early Warning System units have been installed across a stretch of nearly 50 kilometers, from the 52 Gate Barrage to Mirthal. These units have been strategically placed near populated areas, including Pekhan, Sansarpur Terrace, Shah Barrage (right side), Riali (Fatehpur), Bela Sariyana (Mukerian), Parol (Indora), and near Arni University in Indora.
Earlier, during emergency water releases, BBMB teams along with local administration had to alert residents manually through village visits and loudspeakers, which often caused delays. With the new system in place, alerts will now be transmitted instantly, allowing people to move away from riverbanks in time and avoid potential accidents.
BBMB officials stated that the initiative reflects the board’s commitment to public safety and efficient disaster management, ensuring that residents receive advance warnings and can take timely action.
