Two Sikhs shot dead outside Gurudwara in Italy; SGPC Chief condemns incident

Amritsar (Punjab), April 19, 2026 : In a shocking incident, two Sikh men were shot dead outside a gurdwara in Italy, triggering concern among the Sikh community globally. The victims have been identified as Rajinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh.
Reacting to the incident, Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), strongly condemned the killings and termed the incident deeply disturbing.
According to Dhami, the shooting took place outside Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji in Covo, Bergamo, a place known for promoting community service and harmony. He said such incidents are a matter of serious concern for Sikhs living both in India and abroad.
Dhami emphasised that Sikhs have always upheld values of peace, brotherhood, and social welfare across the world, often contributing through gurdwaras to community service and humanitarian efforts. He added that acts of violence at such religious places are extremely alarming.
Calling for immediate action, the SGPC chief urged the Government of India to take up the matter and ensure the safety of Sikhs living overseas. He also appealed to the Italian authorities to take strict action against those responsible for the crime.
Dhami expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, extending solidarity during this difficult time.
