Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu reviews heatwave readiness, sets one-week deadline

New Delhi, April 27, 2026:Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired a high-level meeting with concerned departments and agencies to assess the national capital’s preparedness for the upcoming heatwave.
With the onset of summer, the LG directed officials to ensure that the heat action plan is implemented effectively on the ground within a week. District Magistrates have been asked to take the lead in execution, with a special focus on protecting vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly, and labourers, through robust heat mitigation measures at public places.
He also emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among departments to ensure seamless execution of responsibilities, adding that progress would be closely monitored.
Highlighting a broader approach to heat management, Sandhu stressed the importance of making arrangements for the protection of birds and animals during extreme weather conditions.
