Chandigarh, April 27, 2026: In a significant move towards strengthening women's empowerment, the Haryana Vidhan Sabha has approved the formation of a Special Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment, becoming the first state in the country to take such an initiative.
The resolution, moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mahipal Dhanda, was unanimously passed during a one-day session of the Assembly, following a proposal by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Announcing the decision, Speaker Harvinder Kalyan said a nine-member committee would be constituted, including five women members, with one serving as the chairperson. The committee will have a tenure of one year.
The initiative has been launched under the broader framework of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote women-led development.
Chief Minister Saini welcomed the move and expressed gratitude to the Speaker and members of the House, stating that the committee would play a crucial role in advancing women empowerment and serve as a milestone in strengthening their participation in governance.
The panel is expected to focus on policies and measures aimed at enhancing the socio-economic and political empowerment of women across the state.
