Babushahi Bureau
Barnala (Punjab), April 29, 2026: Taking serious note of wheat stubble burning incidents in parts of the district, Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh has issued notices to a DSP, an SHO, and three cluster officers for alleged dereliction of duty.
The action follows a field visit by the Deputy Commissioner along with SSP Md. Sarfaraz Alam to villages Dhillwan and Maur Nabha, where multiple instances of farm fires were detected during inspection.
Officials said the district administration has already put in place a monitoring mechanism with 40 clusters, assistant clusters, and 254 nodal officers to curb stubble burning. FIRs and challans are also being issued against violators.
Warning of strict action, the Deputy Commissioner said negligence by officials will not be tolerated and directed all departments to ensure zero farm fire incidents in the coming days.
He also urged farmers to adopt eco-friendly stubble management practices instead of resorting to burning, highlighting the environmental and legal consequences of such acts.
