Punjab farmers open multiple toll plazas including Ladowal in protest over compensation delay

Ladowal (Ludhiana), May 4, 2026: Farmers across Punjab on Monday staged protests at several toll plazas, including the state’s costliest Ladowal toll, making them toll-free for three hours to press their demands.
The protest was led by Tarnjeet Singh Nimma of the Azad Kisan Morcha, who, along with supporters, held a sit-in at the toll sites. As part of the agitation, toll collection was suspended from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Police and administrative officials reached the spot after receiving information about the blockade and attempted to persuade the farmers to call off the protest, but they remained firm on their demands.
Speaking to the media, Nimma said farmers suffered heavy losses during recent floods, with crops destroyed, yet adequate compensation has not been provided. He alleged that repeated appeals to both the Centre and the state government have gone unheard.
The farmers said they have now been given time by the Governor for a meeting later in the day. They warned that if their demands are not addressed soon, the agitation will be intensified across Punjab.
