Amritsar (Punjab), May 4, 2026: Punjab Governor and Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Gulab Chand Kataria, along with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, shared the stage at a book launch ceremony and national seminar on “Life and Contributions of Sardar Teja Singh Samundri” held at the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre, Guru Nanak Bhawan.
The book on Teja Singh Samundri, authored by Dr. Piar Singh and translated into English by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh, was formally released in the presence of dignitaries including Dr. Sagarpreet Singh Hooda.

Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Governor Kataria highlighted the pivotal role of Sardar Teja Singh Samundri in Sikh reform movements, calling his legacy a guiding force for future generations. He stressed the importance of acquainting youth with historical figures who dedicated their lives to social and religious reforms.
Emphasising the enduring relevance of Indian traditions such as sangat and pangat, he said these embody the principles of equality and social harmony, where no distinction exists between rich and poor.
He noted that such values are transmitted through historical narratives, which play a crucial role in shaping societal consciousness.
Referring to Samundri’s life, he remarked that without proper documentation, many great personalities would have been forgotten, and highlighted that India’s strength lies in its tradition of preserving knowledge through literature.
He added that the sacrifices of forefathers continue to inspire the present generation, reflected in the willingness of youth to serve the nation.
Delhi LG Sandhu, attending as Guest of Honour and grandson of Sardar Teja Singh Samundri, paid a tribute and described the occasion as a reflection on the “inheritance of values” that shaped his own journey in public service.

He recounted Samundri’s unwavering grit, noting how the Akali leader refused conditional release from British custody and chose to uphold his principles, eventually passing away in Lahore Central Jail in 1926 at the age of 43.
Sandhu emphasised that his grandfather’s role in the Gurdwara Reform Movement was rooted in restoring dignity and community ownership.
He highlighted that the discipline and non-violence demonstrated during the Guru Ka Bagh and Keys Morchas drew international praise, including from Mahatma Gandhi.
He concluded by stating that institution-building remains the most vital lesson for today’s generation and urged youth to uphold integrity, accountability, and selfless service.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh said the book, based on the writings of eminent historian S. Pyara Singh, is a significant effort to take this legacy to a global audience.
He described the translation process as a deeply engaging and introspective journey, adding that the life of Teja Singh Samundri is not merely history but a living source of inspiration rooted in courage, service, and commitment.
He further noted that the book highlights Samundri’s immense contribution to the Gurdwara Reform Movement and his legacy of sacrifice and leadership.
He added that the presence of LG Sandhu, as the grandson of Samundri, brought a sense of historical continuity to the event. He stressed that the work serves as a vital link between the past and present and called upon the younger generation to preserve and promote this heritage.
During the seminar, Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani delivered a detailed lecture, stating that Samundri’s role was instrumental in shaping modern Sikh institutions. Dr. Amarjit Singh presented a comprehensive review of the book and appreciated its scholarly contribution.
