The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Priyank Bharti, IAS (Punjab cadre, 2001 batch), to the position of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).
Alongside this crucial role, Bharti will also hold the additional charge of Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which operates under the same ministry.
This dual responsibility places Bharti at the helm of two pivotal roles in India's rapidly evolving digital landscape. As Additional Secretary in MeitY, he will play a critical part in shaping policies and initiatives aimed at fostering innovation, enhancing digital infrastructure, and driving the country’s digital transformation agenda.
The ministry has been at the forefront of implementing flagship programs such as Digital India, which seeks to empower citizens through technology and bridge the digital divide.
In his additional capacity as Director General of NIC, Bharti will oversee one of India’s most prominent technology organizations. NIC plays a vital role in providing e-governance solutions, managing critical IT infrastructure, and enabling seamless government-citizen interactions across various platforms.
The organization has been instrumental in developing digital tools for governance, including platforms for online service delivery, data management, and cyber security.
