Health Dept issues advisory to prevent spread of dengue on National Dengue Day
Ferozepur, May 16, 2026:
On the occasion of National Dengue Day, Civil Surgeon Ferozepur Dr. Meenakshi Dhingra appealed to the public to adopt necessary preventive measures to stop the spread of dengue and remain vigilant by following the guidelines issued by the Health Department from time to time.
Dr. Dhingra informed that National Dengue Day is observed every year on May 16 with the objective of spreading awareness about dengue prevention and encouraging people to take timely precautions against the disease. She said dengue fever is caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which breeds in clean stagnant water and usually bites during daytime.
Highlighting the symptoms of dengue, she said high fever, body aches, stomach pain, vomiting, bleeding from gums and pain behind the eyes are common warning signs. She advised that anyone showing such symptoms should immediately visit the nearest government health institution for testing and treatment. She added that dengue testing and treatment are being provided free of cost at government health centres.
District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ankush Bhandari and Neha Bhandari also urged people to cooperate with the Health Department’s anti-dengue campaign. They advised residents to wear full-sleeved clothes, use mosquito nets and repellents, and ensure that water does not stagnate in coolers, flower pots, tyres and broken utensils. They further stressed that cooler water should be changed weekly, refrigerator trays cleaned regularly and water tanks kept covered.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Saminder Kaur and Dr. Yuvraj said that anti-larva teams of the Health Department are conducting district-wide anti-dengue campaigns. SI workers, male health workers, breeding checkers, nursing students and ASHA workers are carrying out door-to-door inspections and destroying mosquito larvae on the spot. Awareness drives are also being conducted to educate people about preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.
