Ludhiana (Punjab) May 18, 2026: Panic spread across parts of Punjab on Sunday after bomb threats targeting several schools in Ludhiana, the newly inaugurated Halwara International Airport and the Dhuri-Delhi railway track were reportedly sent through email in the name of Khalistan.
According to information received, the threatening email warned of explosions at prominent schools in Ludhiana, the Halwara airport and railway infrastructure linked to the Delhi-bound route from Dhuri. The sender allegedly claimed affiliation with a Khalistani organisation.
Following the threat, security agencies, railway authorities and airport security forces were immediately placed on high alert. Security checks and surveillance along railway tracks have been intensified, while precautionary measures have also been stepped up at the airport and other sensitive locations.
Police special teams, bomb disposal squads and dog squads rushed to the affected sites soon after the alert was received. Officials launched extensive search operations to verify the threat and ensure public safety.
According to the Police Commissioner, the situation remains fully under control and thorough searches are being conducted at all locations mentioned in the email.
Authorities said cyber crime teams have also begun tracing the IP address linked to the threatening email to identify those responsible.
Notably, similar threat emails had earlier been sent to several schools in Ludhiana during March and April. Those threats were later found to be hoaxes after investigation by security agencies. However, officials said no chances are being taken in view of the seriousness of the latest warning.
