Voter lists’ SIR to be conducted transparently: District Election Officer
Ferozepur, May 18, 2026: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in the district will be conducted in a completely transparent manner, in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India and the State Election Commission, . This was stated by District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Deepashikha Sharma during a meeting with representatives of various recognized political parties.
Deepashikha Sharma informed that the Election Commission of India has issued instructions for carrying out the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Punjab. The objective of the exercise is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the voter list while ineligible persons are removed.
She said that during the pre-SIR voter mapping exercise, nearly 85.82 percent mapping had been completed in the district till May 18, 2026. Out of the total 7,18,760 voters in the district, 6,16,817 voters have been matched with the electoral rolls of 2003.
The District Election Officer further stated that SDM Zira, SDM Ferozepur, ADC (General) Ferozepur, and SDM Guruharsahai are serving as Electoral Registration Officers for Assembly constituencies 75-Zira, 76-Ferozepur Urban, 77-Ferozepur Rural, and 78-Guruharsahai respectively. The district has a total of 903 polling booths, 903 BLOs, and 91 sector officers deployed for the exercise.
As per the schedule issued by the Election Commission, training of EROs, AEROs, supervisors, and BLOs along with downloading and printing of enumeration forms will take place from June 15 to June 24, 2026. Distribution of pre-printed enumeration forms in duplicate will be conducted door-to-door by BLOs from June 25 to July 24, 2026.
BLOs will fill in voters’ information, photographs, and entries from the 2003 voter list on one copy of the form and submit it to the concerned ERO office, while the second copy will be handed over to the voter as a receipt.
The District Election Officer said rationalization of polling stations would be completed by July 24, 2026. The draft publication of voter lists will take place on July 31, 2026. Claims and objections will be accepted from July 31 to August 30, while disposal of claims and objections will continue till September 28, 2026. The final publication of electoral rolls will be done on October 1, 2026.
She added that for the convenience of voters, the voter lists of January 1, 2003 have been linked with the current electoral rolls, making it easier for voters to verify their details. BLOs will visit households three times, if required, to collect completed forms. Aadhaar card will be accepted only as a source of identity and not as proof of eligibility during the SIR exercise.
Deepashikha Sharma appealed to all political parties in the district to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure smooth conduct of the process. She assured that political parties would be involved at every stage of the Special Intensive Revision. During the SIR process, BLAs may submit approximately 50 enumeration forms per day to the BLOs.
The District Election Officer also appealed to all voters of the district to fully cooperate with BLOs during the Special Intensive Revision drive.
