Chandigarh, May 26, 2026: Sporadic violence, clashes, and allegations of voter intimidation were reported during the municipal polls across several districts of Punjab on Monday, raising concerns over law and order at multiple polling stations.
The most tense situations were witnessed in Raikot in Ludhiana district, Samana in Patiala, and parts of Moga, where rival political groups allegedly engaged in heated confrontations during voting hours.
According to reports, security personnel had to intervene at several locations to control the situation. In some areas, police resorted to lathi-charge and also fired shots in the air to disperse clashing groups and restore order.
Eyewitnesses alleged incidents of voter intimidation and attempts to disrupt polling, though officials said the situation was eventually brought under control with additional deployment of security forces.
Despite isolated incidents of unrest, polling continued under tight security arrangements in most parts of the state.
