Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, accusing him of misbehaving with Punjab Police officials and attempting to intimidate officers during the municipal corporation elections in Punjab.
Addressing the media alongside AAP leader Gurpartap Singh Sandhu, Dhaliwal termed Bittu’s conduct “disgraceful, arrogant and completely unacceptable,” alleging that BJP leaders tried to disturb the democratic atmosphere despite largely peaceful polling across the state.
Dhaliwal said nearly 99 percent of voting was conducted peacefully due to arrangements made by the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, but claimed BJP leaders attempted to create tension through intimidation and political pressure.
The AAP leader strongly objected to remarks allegedly made by Bittu against Sangrur SSP Navjot Kaur Grewal, saying the language used against a woman police officer reflected “BJP’s anti-women mentality and abuse of power.”
“It is shameful that a Union Minister would use threatening language against officers performing duty under Election Commission guidelines,” Dhaliwal said.
He also alleged that a Punjab Police Sub-Inspector was manhandled by Bittu’s supporters during the incident, claiming videos circulating on social media showed the officer being grabbed by the collar and subjected to abusive remarks.
Dhaliwal further accused the BJP of misusing power and attempting to create fear during elections. He said Punjabis have historically resisted oppression and would not tolerate threats against officials or democratic institutions.
Questioning Bittu’s “bravery,” the AAP MLA challenged the Union Minister to speak on issues affecting Punjab, including rising petrol and diesel prices, BBMB-related concerns, RDF dues and farmers’ issues.
Dhaliwal alleged that fuel price hikes ahead of the paddy season had increased the burden on farmers, while BJP leaders remained silent on issues such as unemployment, inflation and the concerns of the farming community.
Reiterating support for the Punjab Police, Dhaliwal said the Punjab Government stands firmly with officers carrying out their duties impartially and warned that no individual, regardless of political stature, would be allowed to undermine law and order in the state.
