‘Mission Clean Punjab’: Mann Govt launches 10-day statewide cleanliness drive; View Pics

Chandigarh, August 29, 2026: The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government on Saturday launched ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, a 10-day statewide cleanliness campaign aimed at making urban areas cleaner, greener and healthier.
The special campaign will run from August 29 to September 7, with Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, mayors, municipal councillors and senior officials taking part in cleanliness activities and overseeing sanitation arrangements across cities and towns.
The campaign, built around the slogan ‘Clean Punjab, Proud Punjab’, will focus particularly on identifying and eliminating Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs)—locations where waste is repeatedly dumped. Special teams will carry out intensive cleaning at these spots and work to prevent garbage from accumulating again.
Bains Leads Drive in Nangal
Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains led the campaign in Nangal, Sri Anandpur Sahib, where he participated in cleanliness activities and interacted with sanitation workers and residents.
Bains said cleanliness could not be the responsibility of sanitation workers alone and urged residents, shopkeepers and local communities to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.
He said the campaign would go beyond one-time cleaning and focus on establishing a sustainable sanitation system through regular monitoring and action against recurring garbage points.
Sandhwan Joins Drive in Kotkapura
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan launched the campaign in Kotkapura and honoured sanitation workers for their contribution before joining them in cleanliness activities.
Sandhwan said secondary waste collection centres and garbage dump points across Kotkapura and other parts of Faridkot district would undergo intensive cleaning.
He said the campaign involved sanitation workers, district administrations, municipal councils and officials from various departments.
Sandhwan added that lists of sanitation workers deployed in different wards, along with their mates and supervisors, had been prepared and would be made available on the government portal to improve transparency and accountability.
He also appealed to residents to cooperate with the administration and ensure that the results of the cleanliness drive were sustained beyond the 10-day campaign.
Ministers, MLAs Lead Drives Across Punjab
Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh led the campaign in Patiala, where he participated in cleanliness activities at Thapar Chowk. He stressed the link between cleanliness and public health, saying accumulated garbage and unhygienic surroundings increase the risk of disease.
Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat participated in the drive near Nakodar Chowk in Jalandhar, while Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO led a campaign in Jandiala Guru along with the municipal council president, councillors and sanitation workers.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond launched the drive from the Khanna Municipal Council office. MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa led the campaign in Baltana, Zirakpur, where municipal councillors, ward in-charges and officials participated.
In Amritsar, MLA Dr Ajay Gupta and Mayor Jatinder Pal Singh Moti Bhatia led cleanliness activities, while in Fatehgarh Sahib, MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai led the campaign initiated by the Sirhind Municipal Council.
MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj participated in the drive in Sangrur, while in Moga, MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora and Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia led the campaign.
MLA Rupinder Singh Happy and SDM Deepjot Kaur oversaw the drive in Bassi Pathana, while MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal monitored cleanliness activities in Phagwara.
In Ajnala, MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal led the campaign, with the participation of the SDM, Executive Officer and AAP volunteers. Garbage heaps were removed from several locations during the drive.
Citizens Can Report Garbage Spots Through M-Seva
The Punjab Government has also called for greater public participation in the campaign. Citizens can report garbage and unhygienic spots in their areas by uploading photographs through the M-Seva app, enabling authorities to identify problem areas and take timely action.
The government has urged residents and shopkeepers not to dump waste in public places and to cooperate with municipal bodies in maintaining cleanliness around residential and commercial areas.
The campaign aims to use the 10-day drive not only for immediate cleaning but also to strengthen urban sanitation systems, improve monitoring and promote a sustained culture of cleanliness across Punjab.
