Stray dog attacks 5 people in one day in Machhiwara village, 2 referred to Chandigarh

Machhiwara (Punjab), September 3, 2026: Fear over stray dog attacks has intensified in the Machhiwara area after five people were reportedly bitten and injured in a single day in village Irak, including a three-year-old child and his mother.
According to the report, three-year-old Aman was playing outside his house when a stray dog suddenly attacked him. His mother, Mamta, said the dog seriously injured the child and attacked her when she rushed out after hearing the noise.
Both mother and son were brought to Machhiwara for treatment. Doctors later referred them to Chandigarh in view of the seriousness of their injuries.
Another village resident, Hina, also reached Machhiwara Hospital for treatment after reportedly being attacked by a stray dog.
Staff nurse Harminder Kaur, posted at Machhiwara Hospital, said that five dog-bite cases from village Irak had been reported at the hospital since morning. The patients included 15-year-old Nain Kumar and 35-year-old Abhay Kumar.
According to the hospital staff, two of the five patients were referred to Chandigarh as their condition was considered serious. Villagers claimed that several other residents had also been attacked by stray dogs but received treatment at private hospitals and returned home.
Residents said the number of aggressive stray dogs in the area had become a serious concern. They also claimed that some of the dogs had died and urged the administration to take immediate measures to control the stray dog menace.
The villagers warned that failure to address the situation could lead to a major threat to public safety and further loss of life.
