Khanna (Punjab), November 6, 2026: A large number of people, including prominent personalities from Punjab, gathered at Jalajan village near Khanna to pay tribute to Jasmine, a daughter of the village who died after allegedly facing domestic violence in the United States.
The condolence meeting was organised to stand in solidarity with Jasmine’s family, demand justice for her and raise awareness against domestic violence and atrocities against women. Speakers called for collective efforts to ensure that no other woman becomes a victim of such violence.
The meeting began with committee convener Dr Harachand Singh offering floral tributes to Jasmine’s portrait. Her family members, including her brothers, were present along with hundreds of villagers and other attendees.
During the gathering, people observed a moment of silence in Jasmine’s memory, accompanied by a musical tribute featuring songs written by her brother Paash Azad and other brothers, along with a solemn musical composition.
Speakers stressed the importance of making girls aware of their legal rights and ensuring that women facing domestic violence receive support and protection. They said Jasmine’s death should not be treated merely as a personal or family matter, but should prompt wider social action against violence targeting women.
A photo gallery dedicated to Jasmine’s memory was also presented. It featured photographs from different stages of her life, offering glimpses of her journey, along with heartfelt messages.
The committee put forward several demands, including justice for Jasmine, an early completion of the investigation and strict punishment for all those found guilty under the law.
It also demanded that custody of Jasmine’s eight-month-old son be granted to her mother, and that arrangements be made to bring Jasmine’s mortal remains back to India.
The committee sought necessary intervention and assistance from the Central and Punjab governments in these matters. It also requested an emergency visa for Jasmine’s mother so that she could travel to the United States.
