Chandigarh, April 15, 2015: The counting of votes to decide the winner of the Dhuri assembly by-election held on April 11 started at 8 am at Desh Bhagat College, Bardwal on April 15, 2015. There are 14 counting tables with a supervisor, a helper, and a micro observer manning each. Election observer SM Sarkunde will also be present. Dhuri was an intensive election campaign with 12 candidates trying their luck. The main fight is between Akali-BJP candidate Gobind Singh Longowal and Congress-backed Sanjha Morcha contestant Simar Pratap Singh Barnala, grandson of former chief minister Surjit Singh Barnala.
Highlights of counting round wise are as follows: After seventh rounds of counting, Govind Singh Longowal of SAD(B) leads by 25741 votes. Dhuri By-Poll Sixth Round: SAD Candidate Gobind Singh Longowal leads by 23,566 Dhuri By-Poll Fifth Round: SAD Candidate Gobind Singh Longowal leads by 19446 (9:35) Dhuri By-Poll Fourth Round: SAD Candidate Gobind Singh Longowal leads by more than 14000 votes Dhuri By-Poll Third Round: SAD Candidate Gobind Singh Longowal leads by 11323 (9:30) Dhuri By-Poll Second Round: SAD Candidate Gobind Singh Longowal leads by 8078 (8:50) Dhuri By-Poll Ist Round: SAD Candidate Gobind Singh Longowal leads by 4067 votes
