Remembering Hon’ble Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu…..by GPS Mann
Deeply saddened by the untimely passing away of Hon’ble Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. His demise is a great loss to the Bench, the Bar and all those who had the privilege of knowing His Lordship.
I had the honour of being associated with His Lordship during the PCS Judicial Branch interviews in October 2023. As a Member of the Punjab Public Service Commission, I was part of the interview panel from the PPSC side. The panel was chaired by Hon’ble Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, and Hon’ble Justice Sindhu was one of its esteemed members.
For nearly fifteen days, we sat through long interview sessions from morning till late evening. As per protocol, I was seated next to His Lordship, which gave me the opportunity to observe him closely and interact with him on several occasions.
What stood out was his dignity, humility, patience and gracious conduct. In a distinguished panel comprising Hon’ble High Court Judges, the Chief Secretary, the Advocate General and other senior members, His Lordship’s respectful and reassuring manner gave me great comfort. He carried the authority of the Bench with remarkable grace and simplicity.
I will always remember him as a very dignified, courteous and humane personality.
My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and the entire legal fraternity. May Waheguru give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
May his noble soul rest in eternal peace.
