Chandigarh, 1 December 2020 - Punjab State Veterinary Officers Association opposed the new agricultural laws enacted by the Government of India and supported the peaceful protest by the state and the country's farmers' unions. Releasing a press statement today, Dr. Sarabjit Singh Randhawa, State President, Punjab State Veterinary Officers Association said that the farmers of Punjab have gone to Delhi to take part in the ongoing struggle against agricultural laws and Punjab State Veterinary Officers Association is with the farmers. He appealed to all the veterinarians of the state to extend all possible help to the farmers for the treatment of their animals.
He said that Punjab being the leading state in agriculture, its entire economy and all its businesses are depended on agriculture. Animal Husbandry is one of the major ancillary occupations in Punjab with which the farmer manages his daily expenses by producing milk. With the implementation of the three new agricultural laws enacted by the Government of India, the state of Punjab will face a major socio-economic crisis in the near future, resulting in more migration of youth abroad and higher unemployment. At a time when the unemployment rate in the country is at an all time high, then occupation of agriculture and animal husbandry are the only ray of hope for the youth of Punjab and the rest of the youth of our country to earn their livelihood.
Dr. Randhawa further said that the advent of corporate houses in the agricultural sector would have an negative impact on the economy of the state and the farmers would become slave of these big corporates. Punjab State Veterinary Officers Association urges the Government of India to immediately withdraw these newly enacted agricultural laws which are against the interests of farmers and the general public.
