Patiala: DC Sandeep Hans reviews ongoing procurement operation
Asks Mandi Board Officials and Agencies To Strict Compliance of Moisture Content Specifications
-Appeals Farmers to Bring Dry Produce in Mandis to Avoid any Inconvenience

Patiala, October 20, 2021: Reviewing Kharif Procurement Operations in District Mandis, at a meeting with procurement agencies, Mandi Board officials, Tehsildars and Agriculture officials, today, morning, Deputy Commissioner Patiala, Sandeep Hans asked them not to compromise with moisture content specifications.
He said as the district administration has already issued prohibitory orders for harvester combines not to work after 7 pm and before 10 am, so the concerned executive magistrates who have been put on job to check the violation, should ensure compliance of these orders.
The Deputy Commissioner said to avoid inconvenience to farmers in procurement process, it's our prime responsibility to ensure proper check on arrival of produce as per moisture content specifications.
He said as per the weather changes taking place in wake of decrease in temperature, the moisture content would also increase if harvesting in the wee hours. So, we should exhort the farmers to avoid harvesting in wee hours in order to ensure moisture content and other specifications as per the specifications laid by Government of India.
DFSC Major Gurpreet Singh Kang while briefing the Deputy Commissioner of the arrival and procurement status in the Mandis, said that so far a total of 3.06 lakh MT of paddy has been procured while 93 percent of the purchased produce has been lifted. Similarly, 89 percent of payment has been done, so far.
Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans directed the agencies to make sure the proper arrangements and uninterrupted and smooth procurement operations in view of peak season in coming days as so far there is only 23 percent arrival has been recorded in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Sandep Hans also reviewed the working of Nine flying squads deputed to check the influx of paddy from other states. These flying squads are being led by Executive Magistrates. DFSC Major Kang apprised that so far a total of 2053 vehicles have been checked by these flying squad and five FIRs have been lodged.
District Mandi and Enforcement Officer, Ajay Pal Singh assured the Deputy Commissioner of entry of only those trolleys of produce to Mandis that will fall in specifications. He said that we are taking extra care in all mandis.
Deputy Commissioner also directs the Chief Agriculture Officer to exhort the farmers to dispose of their paddy straw by in-situ or ex-situ management techniques and not to be set on fire to save the environment from pollution of smoke. He asked them to make them aware of the crop residue management machinery available with the Cooperative Societies and Custom Hiring Centers, in the district.
