Arvind Khanna joins Akali Dal, set back for Punjab BJP; Watch Video

Chandigarh, February 15, 2026: In a significant political development, the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suffered a major setback after senior leader Arvind Khanna joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Arvind Khanna, who was serving as BJP Vice President in Sangrur, formally joined the Akali Dal in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Badal personally visited Khanna’s residence in Sangrur, where he inducted him into the party.

“It is my pleasure to welcome senior BJP leader, two-time MLA and my friend Arvind Khanna into the Shiromani Akali Dal and appoint him as the Halka Incharge of the Sangrur Assembly constituency.Mr. Khanna has been serving Sangrur for more than two decades and has been instrumental in carrying out various social initiatives under the Umeed Foundation headed by him. I am confident that his joining @Akali_Dal_ will further strengthen the party in Sangrur district. I wish him all success in his new assignment.
