Chandigarh, September 5, 2025 – The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on Friday said that the water level in the Bhakhra dam has remained below the danger mark, while the Pong dam continues to be in a critical state.
Chairman Manoj Tripathi informed that the Bhakhra dam recorded a peak water level of 16.78 billion cusecs this season, equal to the high levels observed in 1988 and 2023. He said that inflow into Bhakhra has slightly reduced in recent days, helping ease the pressure, but Pong continues to receive inflow of over one lakh cusecs.
As of Friday, the water level in the Bhakhra dam stood at 1,678.6 feet, about 1.4 feet below the prescribed danger level. However, Pong Dam’s level was recorded at 1,394.7 feet, which is above the danger mark.
Tripathi said weather predictions pointed to reduced rainfall over the next three to four days, which could help bring the situation under control.
